One of our most popular servcied apartments - Astons Apartments, was recently approached by a special 'House-Historian'. Peter Bushell successfully produces numerous pages of text on Londons most historic properties...and it was time for him to approach Astons. With records going back over 200 years, Peter is sure to drag up some local heroic guests such as the already known 'Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree'. Check back for the full update soon!
Here is just a brief outline of Astons Apartments history that we at Refresh have been able to lay precious hands on..
Herbert Beerbohm Tree (December 17, 1852 – July 2, 1917) was an English actor-manager.
Born in Kensington, London as Herbert Draper Beerbohm, Tree was the second son of Julius Beerbohm, a Lithuanian-born businessman of German descent, and his English wife Constantia Draper [1]. His younger half-brother was the parodist and caricaturist Max Beerbohm. (Max jokingly claimed that Herbert added the "Tree" to his name because it was easier for audiences than shouting "Beerbohm! Beerbohm!" at curtain calls.)
He founded the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in 1904 and was knighted in 1909.
'Sir HBT' is the grandfather of Hollywood screenwriter and producer Ivan Moffat and is also the great great grandfather of actress Georgina Moffat!
