Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race 2009

On the 29th March one of the oldest sporting traditions will be taking place on the river Thames in London, the Oxford & Cambridge boat race. This will be the 115th meeting between England’s most famous universities as they race from Putney Bridge to Chiswick Bridge a total of 4 miles.
A hugely popular event where as many as 200,000 fans line up on the river bank to cheer and give support and with millions that watch on the TV even if your not a keen rower there is such a tradition, and excitement around the event it is difficult to ignore.
On the course there are some famous landmarks Fulham Football Club (Craven Cottage), Harrods Furniture Depository (now converted flats) and Hammersmith Bridge a great sight in itself.
With a great range of transport links to the boat race it is easy to get to with 2 main underground stations being Ravenscourt Park Tube & Stamford Brook Tube, railway stations Chiswick Railway Station & Kensington Olympia Railway Station, and with car parking being available at Kings Mall Car Park or Hammersmith Grove NCP.
With the event being completely free it is a great opportunity to taste the unique atmosphere and visit some great views and attractions that will be on show. With the race beginning at 3.40pm you may want to get a spot early to enjoy the race.
